Hawkeye Caucus Day 2024. What's it about?
Hawkeye Caucus Day is a day to highlight the accomplishments the University of Iowa is making in Iowa City and across the state at the State Capitol in Des Moines. It’s a unique, once-a-year chance to meet University of Iowa students, leaders, faculty, and alumni as they showcase the university’s continued commitment to statewide service.
Students and representatives from over 30 different UI colleges, departments, and programs drape the capitol in black and gold to show state legislators their Hawkeye pride. So are you with Herky? Join us at this year’s Hawkeye Caucus Day!

University of Iowa students, alumni, leaders, and representatives from dozens of UI colleges, departments, and programs.
Why
Hawkeye Caucus Day is a major, once-a-year gathering of UI students, university leaders, and state legislators, showcasing the university’s commitment to statewide service.
Around 85 students will meet legislators and gain firsthand perspective on state government.
Nearly 50 UI programs—including STEM, and initiatives from the arts, sciences, health care, and humanities—will introduce their work.
A 10-foot inflatable Herky will take center stage in the rotunda, while the mascot himself hobnobs with state leaders.
