Although the nursing profession has changed since Barb Jorgensen graduated, the education she received at the University of Iowa’s College of Nursing had a profound impact on her career and provided a solid foundation that has stood the test of time.
According to Jorgensen, the college prepared her for the compassion and emotional toughness required of nurses. Each semester’s clinical experience was unique, educational, and memorable.
“My experiences as a UI student helped mold my view of what ‘excellent nursing care’ should be,” she said. “I have had a long and rewarding nursing career since the day I graduated. I have been employed by Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa, for most of those years. My education at the UI provided valuable patient care experiences plus prepared me with the skills to become a leader. My BSN background opened up opportunities I might not otherwise have had.”
“My UI education not only prepared me to be a nurse, but equipped me with tools and experiences that have allowed me to grow and contribute within our profession. I am always proud to say I received my BSN from the University of Iowa!”
