University of Iowa College of Engineering alumnus and Muscatine native Richard Stanley (MS 1963 Sanitary Engineering) is a professional engineer, businessman, and world citizen. He is the Chair and past President of the Stanley Group of Muscatine, Iowa and serves as the Chair and President of the Stanley Foundation.
The Stanley Foundation brings fresh voices and original ideas to debates on global and regional problems. As Chair and President of the Stanley Foundation, he directs the foundation toward achieving a secure peace with freedom and justice, built on world citizenship and effective global governance. The focus of the foundation is primarily on peace and security issues while advocating working respectfully across differences to create fair, just, and lasting solutions.
As a professional engineer, Mr. Stanley has spent his entire career with Stanley Consultants, Inc., which provides engineering and related services worldwide. He has served as Chair of the American Council of Engineering Companies, President of the Iowa Engineering Society, President of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Iowa, Chair of the National Construction Industry Council, and Chair of the Northeast-Midwest Institute.
Mr. Stanley’s experience at the University of Iowa had a profound impact on his career and his life. He continues to live the values and lessons he learned on campus so many years ago. In 1998, he was inducted into the University of Iowa College of Engineering Distinguished Engineering Alumni Academy for his engineering achievement, leadership, service to the profession and to the state of Iowa.
