Dr. Lynn Curry revitalizes, retains, establishes and encourages students to pursue a career in dentistry. As a private practicing dentist in Carroll, Iowa, this 1965 UI dental graduate has led the way in working with Iowa students to realize their dreams of becoming a dentist or a dental hygienist.
Lynn has continually worked with the state of Iowa – helping to establish a dental hygiene program at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, revitalized the College of Dentistry’s preceptorship program to successfully retain dental graduates in the state of Iowa, encouraged and mentored numerous students to pursue a dentistry degree, and served as President of the Iowa Dental Association. He was a founder of the Iowa Delta Dental Foundation which provides scholarships for dental and dental hygiene students, as well as supports activities for Iowa Mission of Mercy or IMOM.
During his dental career, Lynn has served on county planning committees, Rotary, school boards, little leagues, and Jaycees all the while being a true supporter of oral health care for Iowans. He has been in private practice for over 44 years, continues to practice two to three days per week, and currently serves on the Coalition on Access to Oral Health Care for Aging Iowans to improve access to dental care. Lynn served six years on the Iowa Dental Board and on The University of Iowa Dental Alumni Association Board. He considers all of his patients his family.
Dr. Curry says that without his educational training at The University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics, he would not have been able to do what he has done for his patients and the state of Iowa. As he puts it, “I never have to explain my degree to anyone – they know where I come from.”
